Things to do to make you smile when you are engaged or newly-wed during a pandemic
It isn’t easy thinking of what all our couples are going through right now. Every couple will be having their own set of problems, no matter what stage of wedding planning you are at. Whether you have a wedding gift list or not, we have compiled a list of things to do that will help make you smile during this unsettling time. As wedding gift list experts, here at The Wedding Shop, we know a thing or two about making people smile.
FRAME YOUR FAVOURITE PHOTOS
Recalling happy memories helps to improve your sense of wellbeing. Include all your favourite photos that you have had together whilst being engaged. Have you ever noticed how nostalgia can boost your mood and positivity? Whether you choose to create a photo album, a gallery wall or photo frame shelf, we bet this will help lift your spirits.
SEND LOVE LETTERS
Sending letters and care packages to your partner and friends and family can help make you feel gratitude. Not only will this make you feel happy and positive, but it will also bring light to the ones receiving the letters. You could even send a love letter to yourself, or future self, to boost your own self-esteem.
HAVE A DATE NIGHT IN EVERY ROOM OF YOUR HOME
Make every room of your home the perfect place to be. Set up a fort in the living room, enjoy breakfast in bed, make your city balcony into a ‘pub garden’. The options are endless. Making new adventures at home will make it fun and help you experience something exciting together.
WATCH A WEDDING CHICK FLICK
You can’t beat a wedding chick flick or comedy when you need to escape reality for a while. Have you ever been at the cinema and wanted to do a dance afterwards? Or, felt like you want to try something new or take on the world after watching a feel-good film? There is no doubt about it that movies uplift us. Some of our favorites are; Bridesmaids, Bride Wars, Wedding Crashers, The Wedding Planner and a new release on Netflix, Love Wedding Repeat.
MIX SIGNATURE COCKTAILS
The creativity that goes into making cocktails is really fun. Making cocktails or mocktails at home gives you something new to try. And you could experiment with different recipes each week. You can also enjoy the fact that you didn’t have to queue at a bar for hours. It will probably cost you half the price than it would in a bar.
BAKE YOUR FAVOURITE TREATS
Getting creative in the kitchen is a great stress reliever! Baking and cooking can enhance mindfulness and really improve your mood. Even if you don’t cook regularly, give it a go you might be surprised.
WATCH HAIR AND MAKEUP TUTORIALS
We all love to learn new things. One of the things that all humans need to be happy, is to engage in hard but doable tasks. So, learning how to apply your own wedding makeup could be a great task to absorb yourself in.
CREATE YOUR WEDDING SHOP GIFT LIST
Imagining your home at its very best will help you escape the moment. Then listing gifts to make it happen will make you feel even better. It is a lot of fun because it is just like shopping without spending.
MAKE A LIST OF ALL THE THINGS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO TOGETHER
Building happy memories for the future will bring you joy. What will feature on your bucket list? Spa days? Lovely meals out? Helicopter lessons? See our travel and experiences for ideas.
GET DRESSED UP AND GO FOR A WALK
Would you agree that there is something about getting dressed up that can really make you feel better? Walking outdoors amongst nature is a great way to lift your spirits. The walking will help you to release your endorphins too.
We spoke to a couple recently who had to postpone their wedding. They told us that to lift the mood on the day of the planned wedding, they got dressed up and went for a walk to their wedding venue. They enjoyed a can of gin together on the steps outside. Followed by a Zoom call later that day with some of their close friends and family.
DO A MR & MRS QUIZ WITH YOUR WEDDING PARTY
This is a great way to have some fun with your friends over video call with a glass of bubbles. Ask your friends and family to ask Mr and Mrs questions for you both to answer. Plan it in for a Friday night to give you something to look forward to.
PLAY A GAME
Another great stress reliever! Games and board games are great for creativity, laughter and for giving you that feel good factor. Playing board games also increases brain function so you will feel more productive. Some of our favourites are Scrabble, Backgammon and Solitaire.
CREATE A TRAVEL BUCKET LIST
Planning a trip together can really boost your happiness. Think back on the last trip you booked. Did you notice that the planning and looking forward to it was just as exciting as being on the trip itself? It is hard not to be positive when you are imagining yourself bare-foot on a beach with a cocktail in hand.
