INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY | TIPS FOR SUCCESS FROM 14 OF OUR FEMALE BRAND PARTNERS

The Wedding Shop celebrates International Women’s Day

We are joining women from all over the world to celebrate International Women’s Day (8th March). A day celebrated globally to praise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and to drive gender parity, empowerment and equal opportunities.

Here at The Wedding Shop the cause is close to our hearts over 76% of our staff are women, including our Managing Director Anne-Marie Jenkins. We also have brand partnerships with lots of successful women, so we asked 14 female founders that we work with about their tips for success and here is what they said:

Anna Rablabs at The Wedding Shop Gift List

ANNA RABINOWICZ, FOUNDER & CEO AT ANNA NY BY RABLABS

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

It would be to understand and celebrate the porosity that would come to exist between my home and work life – and to know that what I have to offer my children is creativity, innovation and fun – learnings that I have from my years of being a designer and an entrepreneur. To accept earlier that I’ll never be the mum who cleans up properly and makes non-lumpy cookies! And to celebrate and find joy in that perfect imperfection.

O.W London at The Wedding Shop

OLIVIA WEINBERG, FOUNDER AT O.W. LONDON

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

There is always a solution. No matter how challenging the situation is - or how wrong things seem to have gone…there is always something that can be done to resolve it. Stay optimistic; it’s half the battle.

ELEANOR NADIMI, FOUNDER AT ONE NINE EIGHT FIVE

What is the best business advice you have ever been given?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Failure is a positive thing if you learn from the experience.

What is your hero product from your collection?

My Woman cushion is my hero product, in fact the entire Woman collection! The story behind this capsule collection of 3 pieces - a cushion, throw and print are all about empowering women to embrace the body they were blessed with. 15% of the profits from the Woman collection are donated to the UK's eating disorder charity Beat.

Bluebellgray at The Wedding Shop

FIONA DOUGLAS, FOUNDER OF BLUEBELLGRAY

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

Believe in yourself more. I was wracked with self-doubt and a lack of confidence for the first few years of running this business, believing that all the people that offered up advice to me must know better than me. Even when my gut told me something was wrong I pushed it down not wanting to hurt people’s feelings or not believing in my own judgement enough over someone more experienced than me. Now I know to filter the advice and that I know my business better than anyone, its just taken me a few years to get there.

Silken Favours at The Wedding Shop

VICKI MURDOCH, CREATIVE DIRECTOR AT SILKEN FAVOURS

What is the best business advice you have ever been given?

Love what you are doing, if you stop loving it then stop doing it.

Rosanna Lonsdale at The Wedding Shop

ROSANNA LONSDALE, FOUNDER OF ROSANNA LONSDALE

What is the best business advice you have ever been given?

To set goals, so that you are focussed on the bigger picture, keeping the momentum going in the right direction as it’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day. Also, I am trying to make as much of my business automated (this one’s still a work in progress!)

Jo Deakin at The Wedding Shop

JO DEAKIN, FOUNDER OF JO DEAKIN

What is the best business advice you have ever been given?

If you aren’t good at something, get someone who is 100% better than you to do it.

Alice Peto at The Wedding Shop

ALICE PETO, FOUNDER OF ALICE PETO

What is the best business advice you have ever been given?

I met Jo Malone when Alice Peto was in its infancy stages, she told me never to underestimate the importance of packaging and never compromise on quality.

Alexia Peck at The Wedding Shop

ALEXIA PECK, FOUNDER OF ALEXIA PECK

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

Be patient! I am too impetuous by nature and because I am a big believer in ‘no time like the present’ I often expect the same from others, which of course can’t always be the case.

Anna Jacobs at The Wedding Shop

ANNA JACOBS, FOUNDER OF ANNA JACOBS

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

Be honest with yourself about what you really love - and do that.

Fenella Smith at The Wedding Shop

FENELLA SMITH, FOUNDER OF FENELLA SMITH

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

Listen to all the advice you’re given, but only action some of it.

Elizabeth Scarlett at The Wedding Shop

ELIZABETH SCARLETT PETRIDES, FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF ELIZABETH SCARLET

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

Discover yoga earlier on in life and learn to recognise when you need a little self-care.

Tori Murphy at The Wedding Shop

TORI MURPHY, FOUNDER OF TORI MURPHY

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

Everything you want for your life is possible, so keep your head down and work hard to get it.

Wicklewood at The Wedding Shop

CAROLINE DOWNING, FOUNDER OF WICKLEWOOD

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice what would this be?

Everyone's path is different, don't worry about where you are right now, enjoy the journey, do things that will make you happy and you'll end up where you want to be.

And to finish, what do you think makes a great gift?

A cushion. Everyone always has room for just one more, and they are the perfect way to add comfort and colour to a room - in the same way that a bunch of flowers does, but, they last for a lifetime.
